SugarDVD Launches VOD Site

LOS ANGELES — Adult DVD rental company SugarDVD has launched a new pay-per-minute video-on-demand service — SugarVOD, which features improved menus and search capabilities, as well as free minutes for new users.

SugarDVD had previously made the service available on its flagship site for the past six months, but decided to launch the VOD brand in an effort to grow its presence in that emerging market.

“At the moment we are still seeing good growth in our rentals,” SugarDVD CEO Jax told XBIZ. “VOD is not cannibalizing it. We do feel that VOD will play a larger role in the future and as such are very excited to launch this new site. We like to stay in front of adult Internet trends.”

Users pay seven cents per minute to use the service, which features nearly 10,000 movies. There are no membership fees.

While SugarDVD and SugarVOD will operate as two distinct brands, Jax said studios and affiliates who do business with the company would continue to see the same level of service.

“We wanted to separate the two services and brands,” he said. “SugarDVD will always focus on DVDs, SugarVOD will focus on VOD. It is the next logical step for us as technology evolves. We are committed to offering affiliates and studios the same type of success they have experienced with our rental program over the past five years.”

Webmasters can promote the site through the company’s affiliate program — DVDDollars.com.
